Welcome!  Heroism doesn't just happen on the battle field.
Here at Gulf Vets Survey we have identified a need to provide a central repository of information regarding exposure to health hazards in combat areas to veterans and the public at large.  In addition to providing educational resources, our prime means of support to the veteran community is extensive surveys to graphically display statistics on veterans' health issues in real time so veterans know they are not alone.  We wish to publish the best resources available and provide communications channels to help veterans locate services and help each other while leaving politics to others.

Veterans with direct combat wounds, that are physically visible, get the lions share of attention and once surgery and rehabilitation occurs they are more likely to receive their compensation for service connected injuries.  In the majority of these cases they receive the support that is earned and can go on with a normal life in a new way.

Veterans exposed to Hazardous Materials/Agents, historically, are different.  They will most likely have to join others to do battle with the government to receive acknowledgement of their service connected disability and the compensation they are due.  Testing and treatment that could help the veterans gets trapped, denied, and delayed by the battle with the government to acknowledge the health consequences to hundreds of thousands of veterans.  Study after study is done.  No timely testing or treatment is accomplished.  That results in continued negative health effects until tragic levels of illness and deaths force acknowledgement.  Even then, we have to establish statistics to show it occurs in a higher percentage of veterans before it is accepted as service connected.

It took 50 years for the Atomic Veterans to get help with the cancers they experienced.  It took 27 years for our government to acknowledge the health damage caused by Agent Orange and other herbicides from Vietnam.  The majority died without a service connection, compensation or effective health care provided to them.

We are undertaking this effort as a means to educate civilians and veterans and to gain more unity and effective support.  We know that polls are done on everything from the job performance of the President to Immigration and gets the attention of the media and the public at large.  One of our objectives is to use our General Opinion Poll as a way to capture the media's attention and to gather more resources to help veterans exposed to hazardous materials.

We all know this not only affects the veteran's health but the veteran's children and family health and their socioeconomic stability.  We know the veterans' marriages are affected.  We know this affects the future generation's trust in their government and desire to serve in the military.  What happened in the past to veterans with exposures to hazardous materials has been repeated again and will occur yet again in the future.
